肯特是一名住在Pukekohe 47岁的单身父亲，他有着两个漂亮可爱的孩子。女儿刚满16岁，儿子14岁。2000年他被诊断出在脑中有一个6.5公分大的肿瘤，他得立即接受手术将其移除，因为患上脑膜炎他在医院里住了10个星期。。

 

打击接踵而来，不久他又被发现患有罕见的Von Hippel-Lindau（VHL ），这是一种由染色体肿瘤抑制基因突变而产生的 疾病。 在2008 和2012年，他又做了两次脑部手术，肾脏手术和眼部手术。在手术台上，他几乎死去过两次，幸运的是他斗过了死神。可妻子因为他的病情，无情地丢下两个年幼的孩子离他而去。由于妻子的离去，他不得不出售房屋。加上他一度六个月不能驾车，又不能正常工作，还要照顾孩子们，所以他决定寻找一处离学校较近的住处，以便日后他要做手术而不能接送孩子们上学时，他们可以自己走路去学校。至今还有10万8千元的房贷需要偿还。

 

2011年他又接受了第三次脑部手术，2015年他的癌细胞转移到了肝，胰腺等部位，医生告知他的生命也许只有两年左右。今年四月的扫描发现他的那些肿瘤数量比一年前翻了两番。他需要到澳大利亚墨尔本去做一种特殊的治疗来延长他的生命。这种治疗称为肽受体放射性核素治疗（PRRT），费用大约是5万元，但已知可将生命延长大约5年。

 

令他十分难过和担忧的是，他的儿子也被检测出到VHL 基因，而这种发病期通常在20岁晚期或30岁初期。为了他两个可爱的孩子，肯特决定向公众请寻求援助。他希望能借助公众的帮助得到这种治疗及付清所欠的房贷，即便他离开了这个世界，孩子们还可以有个安定的住所。

 

肯特是一个善良，健壮的英俊男子。1.86的 他很健谈也非常幽默，话语中充满了乐观，神情中没有一丝沮丧。他拒绝接受化疗，因为他希望能筹到做PRRT治疗的资金，和孩子们一起在他有限的生命里享受优质的生活，目前他需要使用大量的药物来控制他的病痛及其它不适症状。一个多小时的谈话，我被他的故事深深地感动了，同时为这个充满生命活力却具只有限生命的人感到心痛。我所能做的就是希望他的故事能够感动更多的人来帮助他实现愿望，让孩子们有更多的时间与他们深爱的父亲相处。我相信在这个世界上还是有许多有爱心的人愿意帮助他和他的孩子们，。

On May 25, New Zealand Stuff posted the news of Kent Allan's request for financial support. I was touched by his story, for which I specifically interviewed him.

 

Kent is a single father living in Pukekohe at 47 years old, he has two beautiful and lovely children. His daughter just turned 16 years old, his son, 14 years old. In 2000, he was diagnosed with a 6.5 cm large tumor in the brain, and immediately had it removed but because of meningitis, he stayed in hospital for 10 weeks.

 

He was found to have a rare condition called Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL), a disease caused by mutations in chromosomal tumor suppressor genes. Then in 2008 and 2012 he had two more brain surgeries - kidney surgery and eye surgery. On the operating table, he was told he died twice, though, luckily, he was tenacious and won his life back. Then his wife left him with his two young children because of his condition, and he had to sell his property. Plus, he cannot drive for six months, he cannot work, and needs to take care of the children. Thus, he decided to look for a more convenient place to live near the school, so that his children could walk to school in case he had more surgery, So far he still has $108,000 of mortgage that he needs to pay off.

 

In 2011, he received the third brain surgery, in 2015 his cancer cells transferred to the liver, pancreas and other parts. He had been told from the doctor that he may only have about two years to live. The new scan in April this year found that the tumors had quadrupled in size only 1 year after the last scan, and he needs to travel to Melbourne to have further treatment to extend his live. This treatment is called Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT), the cost is about 50,000 and is known to prolong life by 5 years.

 

He is sad and worried that his son was also detected with a VHL gene, and the incidence usually occurs in the late 20s or early 30s. For his two lovely children, Kent decided to ask for assistance from the public. He hopes to get the help for the treatment and mortgage, so even if he left from this world, his children can have a shelter to stay.

 

Kent is a very handsome, kind and strong man. 1.86 cm tall, he is also very humorous, the words are full of optimism, you cannot trace any frustration from his face. He refused chemotherapy to see if he could get the funds for PRRT because he wants to enjoy the quality life with his children in his limited life time, and now he needs to use a lot of drugs to control his illness and other discomfort. More than an hour of the conversation, I was deeply touched by his story and, at the same time, I felt the pain for such a kind man, full of vitality, who just has limited life. All I can do is hope his story can be touched by more people and help him achieve his goal. Letting his children have more time with their lovely father. I believe there are many loving people in this world who are willing to help him and his children.
