Peter Tong
Peter Tong
JENNY WANG TO JOIN AUCKLAND FUTURE BOARD
Jenny Wang QSM, the founder of the Chinese New Settlers Services Trust (CNSST), has joined the board of Auckland Future, a new centre right incorporated society formed to contest the upcoming local body elections.
Chairman of Auckland Future, Peter Tong, said the board is honoured to have Jenny join given her outstanding contribution to the Chinese community over the last 20 years.
“We are reaching out to the wider Auckland community to ensure we represent our culturally diverse city and the aspirations and issues facing the Chinese community are very important for local body politics,” he said.
Jenny is the founder and executive director of the Trust which has developed since 1997 into a highly respected service provider for Asian migrants. With an annual turnover from zero to $3m and a further $10m new social housing project under construction, the Trust offers social services including social work and counseling, employment settlement support, cultural and educational programmes and social housing. It is a CYF approved level 2 community service provider and an NZQA approved PTE. It employs 24 fulltime staff, 20 part time staff and over 110 paid contractors plus 50 long term volunteers.
“Jenny’s track record of leadership, governance and management skills are an important addition to the Auckland Future Board,” Peter Tong said.
“Our aim is to secure a centre right majority on the Auckland Council to ensure sound and prudent decision making on behalf of all Aucklanders,” he said. “Reaching out to the Chinese and Asian communities is a key role for our candidates and Jenny’s input into our policy development will be valued.”
